The Women's Program of the Open Institute is now conducting Khmer Unicode Installation Campaign for organizations/institutions - especially women's organizations.
The Khmer Unicode Installation Campaign aims at helping your institutions to be readily prepared for a systematic and correct use of the Khmer language in computers as well as for the strategic use of technology for more effective management of your program activities as well as for operations management. Not only the Khmer Unicode is the only unique standard for Khmer language use in computers assigned and recognized by the international standard, but also it is being adopted by our government as stated in the national ICT policy. The country is now progressing towards a change from legacy fonts like - Limon or ABC - to only Unicode.
The installation campaign are organized as the following:
- Interested organizations can contact the Open Institute to obtain the Khmer Unicode and software CD for free. The CD contains sufficient guideline on how to install as well as how to use the Khmer Unicode.
- If your organizations find that it is difficult to get your computers started with Unicode by following the instruction, you can ask for technical assistance from our Women's team
- Or you can come to our office with your computers or you can come to ask for more clarification or to learn about installation techniques.
We encourage you to ask any questions related to the Khmer UNICODE in our provided communication tools like Blog and Online forum in this Women's web portal, we are glad to provide you all the answers as well as to help you prepare for the Khmer Unicode.
The legacy fonts like Limon or ABC were the only temporary design for Khmer language use in the computers. It is very difficult to use, it can't apply to any standardized computer software and the most important is that it is fading away in the near future; I am sure that many of you have gone through or have faced these unpleasant experiences. You do not have to bear with it now.
If you want to know more about Khmer Unicode information, you can download Khmer Unicode brochure, (in Khmer, in pdf format, 562KB)
