Job Opportunity - Software Developer
The Open Institute is a local Cambodian NGO which supports the social and economic development of Cambodia by working in two major fields: gender equity and information technology development.
The Open Institute is working on several exciting programs in which technology is used to improve the functioning of Cambodia's health system and support the delivery of better health services, develop crowdsourcing tools for citizen journalists, or develop games to provide information to factory workers or help grade 12 students pass the final exam. The Open Institute works with the latests technologies available, developing connected server-based and Android-based applications that will facilitate data collection and data access, resulting in systems that help Cambodians have a better life.
The Open Institute is looking for qualified candidates to fill 2 positions as Software Developer and 2 positions as Junior Software Developer.
The selected Software Developers and Junior Software Developers will join a knowledgable and experienced collaborative team with wide experience on developing on the Android and open source web environments (PHP, MySQL, Java, etc.). The team has wide experience on phone/backend connectivity that it uses in most of its projects. It works together to train the new software developers and to ensure that they are able to be productive for the projects as fast as possible, quickly acquiring new skills that will increase their professional value.
A qualified Software Developer must fulfill the following requirements:
•Have a degree in Computer Science (Masters preferred).
•At least two years of experience programming PHP and MySQL.
•Being familiar with the Linux operating system and open source work environments. Experience on programming in Android will be highly valued.
•Good English skills.
•Strong team work spirit. Willingness to share knowledge and learn new skills for social change.
A qualified Junior Software Developer must be able to demonstrate a minimum of experience creating databases using PHP, must be studying or have completed an IT career, and must be available to work full time or part-time, at least four hours per day. She or he must have a strong ability to learn and the desire to make a career in software development.
